Mountain Creek GC 2012 Spring Newsletter

Welcome to our 20th Anniversary here at your golf club!  This year more than ever, our focus will be on giving you the members the best service we can.  I have refocused myself to being here to help you and your captains plan/organize and host all of the events that you may want.  This is a great time to be a member at Mountain Creek….Help me give the course back to my members making this once again a members first golf club.  Here is some of the news and changes from our different departments.

Pro Shop:  I would like to start by thanking Steve Hall for 8 years of service and dedication to Mountain Creek.  He has moved on this year and we wish him lots of success.
Many of you know Faye Patrois, our Ladies Club Champion.  She will be working in the Pro Shop this season along with Ashley.  I will be adding one more person to our Pro Shop team.  This will leave me with more time to get out and play with as many of you as I can throughout the season.  Don’t be shy if you’re short a player one week, I need practice for the 2012 CPGA Summer Open.  The Open will be played at Mountain Creek on July 16th.  Everyone is welcome to come out and watch 60 of the local pros deal with our greens!

Kitchen:   Great News!  We have 3 cooks.  We are welcoming Cindy and Kerry back and introducing a 3rd member to our cooking staff.  Interviews are being held for bar staff and I have decided to get 2 extra staff members this year in order to provide table service during our peak season.  We will have a daily fresh made meal along with a condensed version of our existing menu.  By slimming down our menu I will be able to ensure that the quality and freshness of the food are second to none.  We will also be open for breakfast every day.  Keep an eye open for the breakfast special on the website available to members only.

Greenskeeping:  I’m very pleased to announce that Scott is with us again this season.  We’ve come up with a plan that will provide you with a better playing experience.  Greens will be our #1 priority!  The speed and consistency will be checked on a daily basis, and adjustments will be made to ensure superior green conditions.  We’ve also adjusted the mowing schedule of the fairways to avoid the clumping of grass clippings.  A few subtle changes in our habits will help make your day more enjoyable.

Club Events:  I’ve been trying hard to come up with events that you as members would like to participate in.  Last year we had the Florida Scramble.  This year I’m replacing the Florida scramble with the 2013 Membership shootout.  You will have several chances throughout the season to Qualify for this event.  I’m also going to hold Membership Field Days.  The prizes on these days are Membership $$ that you can bank and accumulate during the season.  Gift cards will make up 50% of the prizes of the other weekend events.  I hope these adjustments entice more of you to join us for some fun events.  I have also put in 1 CASH skins game per month for both men and ladies.  The First Skins game will be on April 21.  Opening Men’s Night is April 26, Opening Ladies Night is May 1 and Opening Seniors day is May 2.

Website:  Last June we launched a new website.  You can book tee times, manage your handicap, check the weather and radar as well as see our Tournament Schedule, results and much more.  Look in the specials section for members only specials too!!  Have A Great Season!!!!!!

Don’t forget Members  can save 10% on all pro shop and bar purchases when using our Gift Card

Greens Keeping Report

Welcome to the 2012 Golf Season.  The winter was shorter than usual and the course is well ahead of schedule.  The course came out very clean and dry.  The greens are in very good shape for March/April.The fairways are dry and have little to no ice damage.  The recent cooler weather is keeping some of the poa annua grass from greening up as quickly.  We have one area on #15 green where the cooler weather set the poa annua back.  We covered the affected area with a tarp to help heat it up.  With a little rain and some watmer weather the golf course will be in summer conditions sooner than usual.  This spring we will be tidying up some of our drainage issues as well as cleaning up the earth we removed from the creek between # 1 and #9 fairways.  Enjoy your spring golfing.
